Darren Cotton is a native Western New Yorker and recent graduate of UB, earning his Bachelor’s Degree in International Studies and Linguistics in the spring of 2010. He became fascinated with the field of urban planning after studying abroad in France as an undergraduate and experiencing the ramifications of mass transit and compact development on the urban landscape. Thus, he is pursuing his Master’s Degree in Urban Planning at UB, with a focus on economic and international development.

While living in the University Heights neighborhood of Buffalo, Darren became increasing engaged in the community and has been afforded the opportunity to volunteer with some incredible organizations like PUSH Buffalo, Habitat for Humanity, and the University Heights Collaborative. As the student representative on the Collaborative’s board, he has witnessed firsthand the impact of collective action and citizen empowerment on broad-based neighborhood issues.

Working for the Urban Design Project since the summer of 2010, Darren is excited to bring his classroom knowledge and outside skills to bear on a number of innovative projects. Hoping to stay in the WNY region after graduation, Darren is committed to the revitalization of the Buffalo Niagara region.
