Lackawanna Railroad Displaces Central Wharf
Courtesy Ronald R. Dukarm

In 1883 railroad tracks were laid in the middle of Prime Street and much
of old Central Wharf was demolished or transformed into train sheds. Historian
Frank Severance said its destruction was considered a desecration even
by unsentimental businessmen. “No other place in Buffalo stood for so
much in the city’s business history.”
