Jennyffer Ruiz
Jennyffer Ruiz was born in El Salvador and raised in Queens, New York. She attended the University at Buffalo as a Daniel Acker Scholar and obtained her Bachelor’s of Arts in Environmental Design and a minor in Architecture. She is currently continuing her academic career at UB for her Master’s in Urban Planning (MUP) and hopes to specialize in environmental planning.
Throughout her undergraduate career she participated as an intern and volunteer at a non for profit organization developed through community leaders. Street Synergy Community Association allowed her exposure in developing and designing a community garden in lieu of an empty lot, originally crime driven, located on Bailey Avenue.
She also spent a summer interning with the New York State Dept. of Transportation in Buffalo for the Landscape Architecture/Environmental Sciences Design Unit. Jennyffer applied her GIS knowledge for planning trips to Cattaraugus Creek with the planning and engineering units in order to gather erosion data of the land near the I-219. This led her to gain experience in not only water rafting down creeks, but familiarity when working with members of the Cattaraugus Indian Reservation.
During her stay at the Urban Design Project, Jennyffer seeks expanding her knowledge of environmental planning within the context of urban design.
