Jamie Hamann-Burney
Jamie is a native of Buffalo, NY and attended Hutchinson Central Technical High School where he specialized in architecture and engineering. He received his Batchelor's Degree in Environmental Design at the University at Buffalo, and will be receiving his Master's Degree in Urban Planning from UB in May of 2011
Jamie has worked at the Urban Design project since 2008, and has provided technical, research, graphic and public outreach support for numerous projects, most notably Building UB: The Comprehensive Physical Plan, the Richardson Olmsted Complex Master Plan, and the Buffalo Green Code. He also helped create and manage an RFP for UB Solar, an international design competition for a $5 million solar panel/landscape art installation at the primary entrance to UB's North Campus. Jamie has also helped develop and support environmental non-profits through projects such as the Western New York environmental Alliance's Shared Agenda for Action, a feasibility study for a non-profit shared space and service facility called Center SPACE Buffalo, and a feasibility study for a new urban green space non-profit called Groundwork Buffalo. In addition, he helped author WNY Mapping Waste, a comprehensive report on existing and legacy waste in the region and its impact on social, environmental and economic health.
Jamie is also the Planning Coordinator for the Friends of Times Beach Nature Preserve and Chair of the Times Beach Advisory Committee. He is actively involved in restoration planning and public outreach for this fifty acre lakefront wildlife preserve located in Downtown Buffalo.
Jamie's educational work has emphasized ecologically responsible urban development, and he has done projects on complete streets, sustainable alternatives to proposed developments, historic preservation, and storm water management through natural environmental processes.
