The Urban Design Project [header images/logo]

"The Regional Institute has been the go-to source for practical policy research for more than a decade. And our Urban Design Project has been closely involved in many of the most important planning initiatives in Buffalo Niagara since 1990. We’re even better together."

- Robert G. Shibley, Director of UB Regional Institute

In 2011, two of the University at Buffalo’s most active and relevant research centers — The Regional Institute, and the Urban Design Project came together under the School of Architecture and Planning to become what is now known as the UB Regional Institute.

The alliance of the two strengthens the capacity of the School of Architecture and Planning to pursue public scholarship in service to the community and building a new structure to support faculty research. Combining the professional staffs of the two entities, the Regional Institute has a robust team with a broader skill set. This move represents a vital step in mounting a schoolwide strategy to increase external funding for research and expand public service.
