The Urban Design Project has begun a move toward greater compatibility and accessibility on its web site. More and more people are accessing the web in non-standard ways, via cell phones, PDAs, TTY devices, and other text-based or less graphical means. Because of this change, we have begun to rewrite our web pages using style sheets, which allow the content of a page to be independent of its graphical layout instructions. While this provides faster-downloading pages and much greater accessibility, it presents problems for users of legacy browsers such as Netscape 4.x.

Netscape 4.x began to render pages with style sheets, and in this respect was a great step forward in web browsing. However, being on the cutting edge of web development at its time, it behaved very unpredictably in its rendering and page layout features. Pages that display properly in newer versions of Netscape, Internet Explorer, and Opera are extremely difficult to render properly in Netscape 4x.

We have tried to make our pages legible and functional in Netscape 4x, but the appearance will not be the same as it would be if you used a newer browser. In addition, some of the stylistic features of the pages do not render properly in version 6 of Netscape and Opera. Fortunately, you can update your browser for free at Netscape, Microsoft, Firefox, Safari or Opera.

We appreciate your understanding as we attempt to make our site as accessible as possible for as many people as possible. Thank you.
