National Register Nomination

The second aspect of the project is the work required to nominate some or all of the grain elevators to the National Register of Historic Places. This work is supported by the New York State Council on the Arts and the Preservation League of New York State and managed by the Landmark Society of the Niagara Frontier. The grant will support the scholarly work required to prepare the appropriate forms for a Multiple Property nomination. We have secured the services of Frank Kowsky, Buffalo State College architectural historian, to head up this work. He will work closely with the New York Office of Parks, Recreation and Historic Preservation in Albany. The first year we will prepare the contextual documents, background for Historic Contexts, Associated Property Types and other required information, and the forms to nominate one elevator. The second year, we will prepare the nomination forms for other eligible elevators.
